There has been a roadrunner in the neighborhood the past few days. This Greater Roadrunner (Geococcyx californianus) is the New Mexico state bird and is about 20 to 24 inches long. It runs on the ground and its voice is six to eight low, dove-like coo's, descending in pitch. It's habitat is deserts; dry open country with scattered cover and brush.
